FAQ’S
Can System Scheduler wait until one job is finished, before starting the next job?
Yes, to do this you need to create a Sequence of Events. Create a New Event, and from the drop-down list select Sequence of Events. Then in there you can add your first Run Application job to run, then add a Command to Wait until the Event is Finished, then add your second Run Application job… and so on. You then just need to set the Schedule when you want the Sequence of Events to run.
How do I backup my Events and/or copy them to another computer?
All events are stored in the \EVENTS sub-folder under where you installed the System Scheduler application. Each event is stored in it’s own .INI file. The simplest way to backup is to go to the Action menu and choose Backup Events and this will copy the .INI files to a location you choose. Or you can copy the .INI files directly from the folder yourself. On the destination computer you can either use the Action – Restore Events option or copy them into the \EVENTS sub folder yourself. If you are copying .INI files directly into the \EVENTS sub-folder you may want to force System Scheduler to re-read these on the destination computer, you can do this by copying/creating a file called ‘update.flg’ into the \EVENTS sub-folder.
Can System Scheduler Automatically Logon the computer when it reboots?
For Windows XP/Server 2003, System Scheduler has an option to automatically logon to the computer at a scheduled time using the ‘Logoff/Logon’ computer event. Since then higher versions of MS Windows have a different security model and it is no longer possible for System Scheduler to do an automatic logon on those newer versions of MS Windows.
Do you have an iPhone / iPad / Android version of iDailyDiary?
Not yet. Maybe in the future but can’t promise
Conclusion
Project managers must understand the Critical Path Method, including how to do a forward and backward pass, determine the critical path, and calculate total and free float. This knowledge is important so the schedule logic can be checked to ensure the schedule is correct. It’s also important to know the relationship between duration, work, and availability, and when to use each task type (fixed work, fixed units, or fixed duration).
Schedules should use both project start and project complete milestones, a contingency task just before the project complete milestone, and make use of the header, footer, and legend. The project manager needs to prepare a schedule with the right level of detail, so the schedule is a manageable and useful tool for the project team. It’s also important to avoid the common mistakes that can occur when preparing a schedule, such as hangers, misuse of constraints, and linking summary tasks. Finally, follow the recommended schedule preparation procedure to help ensure your schedule is accurate and complete.
