The Softube Mutronics Mutator Crack is one of the most revered rack mount stereo filters ever created. It was short-lived in production due to a vital component being discontinued in its manufacturing process, but that didn’t stop everyone from Eric Clapton to Daft Punk from accepting it. Softube has proven to be an expert at lovingly recreating old computers in software form, so I was very excited to check out his vision of the Mutator. Standard analog subtractive synthesis works quite simply. Take a rich sound like a sawtooth wave or a square wave, then you have a large filter section that ‘ The latest plugin from Softube emulates a modern classic: the Mutronics Mutator. First conceived and manufactured in the 1990s and discontinued in 2007, this superb dual channel filter provides incredible sounding mono or stereo track processing, with built-in LFO and envelope modulation unlocking real creative potential. Each of the two channels consists of a 24 dB / octave resonant low-pass filter with a dedicated envelope follower, LFO, and output amplifier (VCA).
Envelope controls comprise attack, release, and sensitivity of the input signal, while LFOs offer frequency, depth, and waveform adjustment (triangle, square, ramp up, ramp down). The filter section itself houses knobs for cutoff frequency, resonance, and the amount of envelope sweep (positive or negative). The envelope follower controls both the VCA and the filter cutoff via the envelope sweep control. It can be configured to follow the amplitude of the main input or an external sidechain encoding signal, or completely switched to a simpler on / off gate mode, with the sensitivity control setting the threshold. Each LFO includes a three-way switch to assign it to the filter, amp, or both, while the top LFO can be operated on both channels with a click of the link switch. To the right of the Filter section is a switch that bypasses the VCA entirely, sending the post-VCF signal directly to the output. Feature-wise, Softube Mutronics Mutator Serial Key emulation is totally faithful to the original, with the exception of the additional panel at the bottom that adds LFO Tempo Sync (1/16 to 4 bars), wet / dry mixing, output volume, and the middle / side. -Balance width control. Also, the knob parameters are displayed in the lower left corner, giving precise values for Envelope Attack (1-500ms), Release (1-2000ms), LFO Rate (0.03-30Hz) and Filter Cutoff (42Hz-22kHz), while holding down. The Shift key groups both channels together, albeit without retaining their relative offsets, unfortunately. The Mutator filter is famous for its silky smooth sound and response envelope, both of which are perfectly captured here. On rhythm guitar or bass parts, for example, you can add subtle emphasis.
The same trick can be applied to drum and percussion loops, synths, and electric pianos, along with the reverse panning tricks discussed in The Missing Link. Combine this with the tempo-synced LFO, Mix blend and Width controls, and you’ve got a sleek processor that adds subtle tonal and spatial enhancement not easily achieved otherwise. However, it can also totally transform sounds with deeper envelope settings and higher filter resonance. In fact, the resonance is noteworthy because it has a real bite, but it never feels out of control, even when self-oscillating. There is also a lot of use that can be made of using one sound as an external surround source to filter another. On the downside, we think Softube Mutronics Mutator License Key could have added additional enhancements, serial filter operation and more complex signal routing, and functional extras like retaining that aforementioned offset like grouping the controls. However, this is still a fantastic and highly successful emulation of a hardware classic.

- Created in collaboration with Mutronics
- Create a classic ’90s sound
- Each component carefully modeled after the original hardware.
- Amazing filter effects
- Give a classic analog sound to your guitar, keyboard, drums, or vocals.
- Overlay the envelope characteristics of one sound onto the filtering contour of another
- Gate a sound from an external control source such as hi-hat or a drum loop
- Use the external side chain input for an external sound source to control filter movements
- Use the Mutator as a stereo pan filter: as the filter cutoff frequency of one channel increases, that of the other channel decreases, and the sound changes from side to side in a frequency-dependent manner.
- New features included in the plugin version are host-based tempo sync, automation, and mixing knob capabilities.

Softube Mutronics Mutator Wonderful sound effects plugin. A great recreation of a timeless classic. My only complaint (considering I’ve only had it a few days, and it could be that I’m doing something wrong) is that I can’t get two instances to run at the same time in my DAW.
